‘Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese’ to be released on Netflix in 2019
The legendary director’s film will focus on Dylan’s 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue.
Although the release date for his long-awaited film ‘The Irishman’ is still nowhere in sight, Netflix have announced that Martin Scorsese is directing a new Bob Dylan documentary, due to be released on the streaming service later this year.
Details of the project are currently limited, though it has been confirmed that the film will cover Dylan’s 1975 leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue. Dylan was joined on the North American tour by numerous collaborators and guests, including Joan Baez, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, and Patti Smith, among others.
Netflix have told Variety that Scorsese’s film will be “part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream.”
The American filmmaker’s previous Dylan-themed documentary ‘No Direction Home’, released in 2005, won a Grammy Award for best long-form video. Dylan was also featured in Scorsese’s ‘The Last Waltz,’ considered one of the greatest concert films of all time.
