Remake for Whitney Houston's 1992 film The Bodyguard in the works
The original film spanned iconic Houston hits, such as 'I Will Always Love You' and 'I Have Nothing'.
1992 Whitney Houston film The Bodyguard is set to be remade with American playwright and screenwriter Matthew Lopez at the helm for the script.
Houston starred in her first significant acting role as a superstar musician, while Kevin Costner portrayed the part of a former secret service agent hired to protect her from a stalker.
According to Variety, the remake is reportedly in development by Warner Bros - although no casting details have been released yet.
Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote the initial film and is also known for his work on the original Star Wars films, will serve as producer for the new picture.
Although The Bodyguard was critically panned on release, receiving seven Golden Raspberry (gag award ceremony for the worst films of the year) nominations, it was became a staple of pop culture. The flick also became the 10th highest-grossing film of all time upon its release; amassing over $400 million worldwide.
The soundtrack for the original movie featured iconic tracks from Houston, such as 'I Will Always Love You' and 'I Have Nothing'. Winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1994, the soundtrack is one of the best-selling movie albums of all time.
Whitney Houston sadly passed away in 2012 due to an accidental drug overdose. She remains one of the best-selling artists of all time and is considered one of the most influential R&B singers of her era.
