First trailer for Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series released
Irish actors Daryl McCormack and Fiona Shaw will feature in the new show.
The first trailer for Netflix's Pride and Prejudice has been released. The show will drop on the streaming service on December 3.
Written by award-winning author Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), the 6-part series is based on Jane Austen's iconic novel of the same name.
Pride and Prejudice was first published in 1812. Set in 19th century England, it follows Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters, as they navigate love, family and societal expectations to secure their futures.
Alderton explains the lasting power of the story.
"Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812.
"Embarrassment of your family, fear that you’re going to get left behind, fear that the world is not going to be a safe place for your children as it was for you, mortification that you judged someone incorrectly or that you had been misjudged. We go to that book to see our hearts reflected in it."
Emma Corrin (Nosferatu) plays Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet, while Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) acts opposite them as the enigmatic Mr. Darcy.
Olivia Colman (Fleabag) will portray Mrs. Bennet, alongside Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) as Mr. Bennet. Jane is played by Freya Mavor (Industry), Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper) will play Lydia, and newcomers Hollie Avery and Hopey Parish will debut as Kitty and Mary Bennet.
Irish actor Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters) plays the charming Mr. Bingley, while Siena Kelly (Black Mirror) plays his sister Caroline.
Other supporting cast members include Louis Partridge (House of Guinness) as Mr. Wickham, and Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats) as Mr. Collins.
Irish actress Fiona Shaw plays the imposing Lady Catherine de Bourgh. She returns for another Austen adaptation, following her turn in Sense and Sensibility, which premiered in September.
