Ray D'Arcy leaves RTÉ after 11 years
Shay Byrne will fill D'Arcy's slot for the remainder of the week.
Presenter and broadcaster Ray D'Arcy has left RTÉ after 11 years.
The departure is said to follow a meeting that was held between D'Arcy and RTÉ’s Director of Audio, Patricia Monahan, earlier this week.
In a statement released this afternoon, RTÉ wrote, "After over 11 years on RTÉ Radio 1, The Ray D’Arcy Show is set to come to an end this week – Ray presented his show for the final time yesterday." RTÉ followed on by saying, "Ray and his team produced thousands of hours of live radio, capturing real-life stories and a huge range of personal experiences."
RTÉ’s Director of Audio, Patricia Monahan, thanked D'Arcy for his contribution to RTÉ Radio 1 over the last eleven years.
While details of RTÉ Radio 1's future plans are not known at this time, Shay Byrne will fill in for D'Arcy for the remainder of the week.
D'Arcy first came to prominence in the 1990s with a television career on RTÉ, presenting children's television on The Den, a quiz show called Blackboard Jungle and the youth music show 2Phat. In the 2000s he presented television coverage of The Rose of Tralee for four consecutive years until 2010. In 2014, D'Arcy rejoined RTÉ after working at Today FM.
