A new documentary, Amhráin do mo Mháthair (Songs for my Mother) will air tonight on TG4.
The documentary follows acclaimed Dingle singer Pauline Scanlon as she explores her mother's hidden past through the lens of traditional Irish song. The story delves into her mother's life, including the difficult decision to give up a son for adoption, and the eventual emotional reunion of that son, Graham, with the family 50 years later.
Scanlon, a distinct voice in contemporary and traditional Irish music from the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, released the album The Unquiet: Songs for my Mother in 2022 to honour her late mother.
A clip of Scanlon performing 'The Unquiet Grave' with Damien Dempsey from the upcoming documentary is now available to watch.
The documentary will also feature performances by a line-up of musicians including John Reynolds, Graham Kearns, Caoimhe Hopkinson, Chris Pemberton, Nicola Joyce, Barry Kerr, Damien Dempsey, Eamon Murray, Matt Griffin, and Bernie Pháid.
The programme will air on TG4 this evening at 21.30. It will also be available for viewing worldwide on TG4.ie.
