Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland takes home two BAFTA awards
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Television Craft Awards took place at The Brewery in London on Sunday night.
BBC produced Troubles-era documentary Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland has snaffled up two gongs at last night's BAFTAS award ceremony.
The 2023 miniseries was directed by James Bluemel and Northern Irish Sian McIlwaineas as a follow-up to Bluemel's 2020 series Once Upon a Time in Iraq.
The series consists of five episodes that feature interviews with members of Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries, members of the British Army who served in Northern Ireland, along with others caught up in the conflict.
Among the interviewees in the critically acclaimed documentary, is Late Late Show presenter Patrick Kielty, whose father was killed by Loyalist paramilitaries during the Troubles.
Last night's awards ceremony honoured technical achievement as the BAFTA Television Craft Awards.
The ceremony awarded the editing team of Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland the Editing: Factual award as well as the Original Music: Factual award which went to Composer Simon Russell.
The documentary is also among the Factual Series nominees at next month's BAFTA Television Awards, which will take place at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 12 May.
