Nothing Compares director Kathryn Ferguson sets upcoming Humphrey Bogart documentary at Universal Pictures
Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes marks the first documentary about the film star endorsed by his estate.
Nothing Compares director Kathryn Ferguson has set her documentary on legendary Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart at Universal Pictures Content Group, as reported by Variety.
According to the logline, Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes “focuses on the icon of Hollywood’s golden age, Humphrey Bogart, and is framed around his relationships with the five formidable women in his life – his mother and his four wives, including Lauren Bacal.”
The feature will make use of rare footage and is narrated in his own words.

“Our approach when examining Bogart’s story began with looking at the key women in his life, the women who had been instrumental in his success and who all, bar his fourth wife, Lauren Bacall, had been left as footnotes in history,” Ferguson told Variety.
“Their shared stories lead us through seismic cultural shifts, with censorship forming a central thread. I hope ‘Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes’ becomes a fresh look at one of Hollywood’s most revered actors, and most of all, an honest, nuanced account of a complex man.”
The Belfast-born director will be reuniting with Nothing Compares collaborators in the form of writer and producer Eleanor Emptage and editor Mick Mahon. Their previous work on the late Irish music icon Sinéad O’Connor went on to win numerous accolades after its release in 2022.
“The film was a love letter to Sinéad”, Ferguson said in last year's Hot Press Sinéad O’Connor tribute issue. “Having her voice in it was critical… She was always an absolute warrior to me, who I adored on so many levels. She didn’t regret a thing. I wanted the film to encapsulate the absolute essence of that.”
