Marian Keyes's The Walsh Sisters coming to RTÉ
Filming for the new series is set to begin in early 2025
RTÉ Television has announced The Walsh Sisters, a six-part comedy-drama based on Marian Keyes’ bestselling novels set to premiere next year.
The series is billed as "a comedy about serious things - a pacey, brutally honest, and uncompromisingly funny exposé of the realities of being an Irish sister".
Set in Dublin, the series chronicles the life experiences of Anna, Rachel, Maggie, Claire, and Helen, as they navigate the peaks and troughs of their late 20s and 30s, supported by "a devout mother and a bemused father."
The story chronicles the lives of five sisters, Anna, Rachel, Maggie, Claire, and Helen Walsh, as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of their late twenties and thirties, supported by their devout mother and their bemused father. From addiction to heartbreak, grief to parenthood, the Walsh sisters face it all with humor, resilience, and a shared love of power ballads.
Acclaimed screenwriters Stefanie Preissner (Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope) and Kefi Chadwick (Rivals) penned the series, while Ian FitzGibbon (Moone Boy) directs. Metropolitan Films International and Cuba Pictures have partnered to produce the show, which is funded by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and the BBC.
Marian Keyes expressed her excitement, saying, “I love the scripts; they’ve kept the spirit of the books. It’s a great feeling that the news is now out!”
