Legendary actor-director Rob Reiner and wife Michele found dead in apparent homicide
Reiner is famed for directing classic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and Misery.
Renowned American director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner have been found dead in their home in Los Angeles, in what's being investigated as an apparent homicide.
Authorities were reportedly called to the couple's house on Sunday afternoon.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner," a spokesperson from the family said in a statement.
"We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
The LAPD have also stated that they "are not looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time."
"We're going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation," said LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton.
Rob Reiner first came to prominence as a TV actor, before directing classic films like This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, Stand By Me and A Few Good Men.
He's also appeared in the likes of Sleepless in Seattle, The Wolf of Wall Street, The First Wives Club, and New Girl.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has paid tribute to Reiner and his wife Michele on social media – stating he is "heartbroken by the tragic loss", and describing Reiner as a "big-hearted genius".
"His boundless empathy made his stories timeless, teaching generations how to see goodness and righteousness in others — and encouraging us to dream bigger," the tribute continues.
"That empathy extended well beyond his films. Rob was a passionate advocate for children and for civil rights — from taking on Big Tobacco, fighting for marriage equality, to serving as a powerful voice in early education. He made California a better place through his good works.
"Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity."
