Late Late Show Trad Special to feature Peggy Seeger, BIIRD's Lisa Canny, Donal Lunny and more
Catch the musicians for performances, collaboration and conversation this Friday night.
Peggy Seeger, BIIRD's Lisa Canny, Donal Lunny and more are set to appear on this Friday’s Late Late Show Trad Special.
The programme, billed as a celebration of traditional Irish music, will welcome international and Irish artists including artists set to appear at this year's TradFest.
American folk singer Seeger will reflect on her seven decades in music, and perform 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' as a tribute to her late husband Ewan MacColl. A special group performance of 'Dirty Old Town' is also on the bill.
Canny will discuss her busy year with the all-female trad supergroup Biird, after launching their debut Irish tour and taking the stage at All Together Now, the Fleadh and 3Arena.
Lunny, joined by a number of leading Irish musicians during the night including Kevin Conneff of The Chieftains, Fiachna Ó Braonáin and Zoë Conway, will share songs, stories and their attachment to traditional music.
Actor Ricky Tomlinson will also make an appearance on Friday, where he will discuss The Royle Family, his connection to Ireland and his affinity for music.
One musician, who will be announced tomorrow, is also set to be inducted into The Late Late Show Trad Music Hall of Fame for the first time.
The Late Late Show Trad Special premieres on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Friday at 9:35pm.
