ITV's Coronavirus dramas have been cast
The 15 minute shorts are produced by Jeff Pope, the writer of the Oscar-winning screenplay for Philomena
The upcoming Coronavirus-related ITV dramas Isolation Stories have their cast, with Gavin & Stacey's Sheridan Smith, and Angela Griffin (of Coronation Street fame) among the host of actors taking part.
The "funny, sad, heartwarming and poignant" dramas will be filmed in accordance with social distance restrictions, and the directors are compiling footage from their phones and other devices. The premiere date is unannounced as of yet, but it seems like the series will offer us all something common to latch onto.
Sheridan Smith said: "I am heavily pregnant and have been isolating at home so I jumped at the chance to make a drama about the massive drama going on all around us right now. I think it's really important to try and reflect what's happening to us whilst it is still actually happening."
She will play the title character in Mel, about a woman who must deal with isolation alone and pregnant, while the father of her child isolates in his own home with his wife and children.
Griffin will take part in Mike and Rochelle, about a therapist who finds herself attempting to calm down her hypochondriac patient (played by Killing Eve's Darren Boyd).
Other episodes star Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), his actual sons Blue and Bodie, David Threlfall (Shameless), and Robert Glensteir (Spooks) and his real-life son Tom.
