Irish comedy Deadly Cuts to hit audiences in the US, Australia, Spain & South Africa
The debut film from writer/director Rachel Carey is expected to reach international audiences by St Patricks Day.
Irish comedy Deadly Cuts is set to go global after being sold to distributors in the US, Australia, Spain and South Africa.
The film is currently trending at number 4 on Irish Netflix, and is expected to reach an international audience by March of this year. The debut film of writer and director Rachel Carey, Deadly Cuts was released to Irish audiences last week. Since, it has received widespread acclaim, earning a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Carey expressed her delight at the film having a further reach. "It is such an Irish film and I think it is unapologetically Dublin and very deliberately so," she said in an interview with RTÉ Radio One's Morning Ireland. "I'm really excited about an international audience seeing it and seeing Dublin wit and humour for what it really is.
Both lively and dark, Deadly Cuts follows the misadventures of four hairstylists (Angeline Ball, Erika Roe, Shauna Higgins and Lauren Larkin) navigating life the fictional Dublin neighbourhood of Piglinstown. Dealing with everything from local gangs to unsympathetic politicians, the group tackles obstacles in desperate attempts to preserve their community — often finding themselves in comically over-the-top scenarios.
Produced by Auveen Lush, Ciara Appelbe and Liz Gill, the O'Sullivan Productions film was shot on location in Ireland in association with Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Virgin Media.
Deadly Cuts is streaming now on Netflix.
