HBO have revealed the air date for an upcoming two-part documentary on the Sopranos.
Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos is set to premiere on September 7, and tells the story of the iconic mob drama its creator.
Taking place on a replica set of Dr. Melfi’s psychiatrists’s office, Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney dives deep into the psyche of Sopranos creator and writer, David Chase, offering a unique window into his work on the show.
The writer was raised in an Italian American family in New Jersey and supposedly had complicated relationship with his mother – not too dissimilar to the main man from the programme’s titular family, Tony Soprano.
Chase will be reportedly be joined writers, producers, executives, and actors, including Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi), Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano) and Michael Imperioli (Chris Moltisanti).
Wise Guy will be available for steaming via HBO: Max, which is currently unavailable in Ireland.
25 years after it first aired, the Sopranos remains a cultural phenomenon, and is often regarded as one of the best TV series of all time. To mark the show's quarter-century milestone earlier this year, we revisited an interview with late actor Frank Vincent, who played the role of Tony Soprano's mob boss rival Phil Leotardo.
