First images released for The Day starring Louisa Harland

The first images and details about The Day have been released, an eight-part thriller series based on the Belgian series De Dag. The show will premiere on Paramount+ later this year.

The Day stars Louisa Harland, a.k.a. Orla in Derry Girls, along with Luca Pasqualino of Rivals and Minnie Driver of Emily in Paris, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in Good Will Hunting.

The entire plot takes place in the span of one day, centering on a bank robbery that turns into a hostage situation. The events are told first from the perspective of the police, led by Driver's character, before switching to the point of view of the robbers and hostages within the barricaded bank. The shifts continue, altering the context of the standoff with new information each time, only revealing the full picture in the finale.

The cast also includes Claire O'Donovan of Normal People, plus David Ganly, Laurie Duncan, Charlie Kelly, and Jonathan Nyati, among others.

The Day is based on the Belgian twelve-episode show De Dag, created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu and released in 2018. It won several prizes at Film Festival Oostende and Festival de la Fiction TV.

The English language version was written by Ben Harris and Jesse O'Mahoney. It is being produced by Jake Rollins and co-directed by Andy and Ryan Tohill.
