Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon teaser drops
Two years after the (highly polarising) conclusion of global phenomenon Game of Thrones, HBO is bringing us back to Westeros.
The gritty new reveal trailer does not give away too much, teasing fans with a couple of close-up shots of the iconic Iron Throne, a few of the new characters, and just a drop of the action which is to come.
Taking place 200 hundred years before the arrival of the White Walkers, the prequel series will focus on House Targaryen, which means more actors with white-dyed hair and, more importantly, a lot more dragons. The spin-off is rumoured to cover the ‘Dance with Dragons’, a time period where Westeros was torn apart by a civil war within the ruling House Targaryen.
The series - which is set to premiere in 2022 and will consist of 10 episodes - features an all-star cast; including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Sonoya Mizuno, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, and Olivia Cooke. Smith can be seen sporting long flowing white hair in the dramatic trailer.
If you’re on the fence about the show after the way the last journey into the world of A Song of Ice and Fire ended, the fact that Miguel Sapochnik — who directed the unforgettable ‘Battle of the Bastards’ — has been chosen as one of the showrunners might be enough to pique your interest.
The series will be based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood, and the author will also serve as an executive producer.
