Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge to star in Mr and Mrs Smith series for Amazon Prime

Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge have signed on to star in a TV reboot of Mr and Mrs Smith for Amazon Prime.

The series is a new take on the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, portraying a married couple who have been assigned to kill each other by their competing assassin agencies.

The project stems from Waller-Bridger’s deal with Amazon Studios, with Atlanta and Fargo showrunner Francesca Slonee on board as co-creator.

Mr and Mrs Smith will mark Waller-Bridge’s first starring role since her Emmy Award-winning series Fleabag wrapped up in 2019.

The English talent has focused her efforts behind the camera, contributing to the screenplay for the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die and serving as an executive producer on the HBO series Run.

She recently directed the 'Savior Complex' music video for Phoebe Bridgers - starring Normal People actor Paul Mescal - and co-starred in Harry Styles' dance video for 'Treat People With Kindness'.

Glover had planned to return in 2021 with the long-awaited third and fourth seasons of Atlanta, before the pandemic indefinitely halted production,

It remains unclear when new episodes of the popular Georgia-set series will finally air.
