Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson set to lead off-Broadway play Irishtown
Grey's Anatomy's Kate Burton will also feature in the play.
Saoirse-Monica Jackson, best known for her role as Erin Quinn in the television series Derry Girls, will be the lead of Irishtown, a new Off-Broadway comedy written by Ciara Elizabeth Smyth. She will make her New York stage debut at the Irish Repertory Theatre from April 2 to May 25, 2025, with an official opening on April 13.
The production is directed by Nicole Murphy Dubey. Jackson will be joined by Tony nominee Kate Burton, along with cast members Kevin Oliver Lynch, Brenda Meaney, and Angela Reed, with voiceover work by Roger Clark.
Irishtown follows a Dublin-based theatre company as they rehearse for a new play. As rehearsals progress, the cast raises concerns about the play’s writing, thinking its too experimental, and makes efforts to incorporate traditional Irish elements.
The play was first introduced at Irish Rep’s New Works Summer Festival in 2023 and was further developed in a 2024 workshop before being selected for a full production. Jackson has an established background in theatre, including a role in Jez Butterworth’s The Ferryman.
