Catherine O'Hara's cause of death confirmed
O'Hara passed away on January 30 in Los Angeles, California, aged 71.
Catherine O'Hara's cause of death has been confirmed as a pulmonary embolism. Additionally, her death certificate in the US listed rectal cancer as the long-term cause of death.
The Canadian actress began her career in sketch comedy series Second City Television, which granted her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 1982.
Thanks to her role as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek, O'Hara won an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe for Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series.
Known for her roles in Beetlejuice and Home Alone, the actress also starred in mockumentary films, including Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration.
Elsewhere, O'Hara had an extensive voice acting career, featuring in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicken Little, Over the Hedge, Frankenweenie, and Elemental.
Recently, the actress had also featured in HBO show The Last of Us and comedy series The Studio.
Many, such as Pedro Pascal, Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Seth Rogen and Macaulay Culkin, took to social media to pay tribute to the late actress.
O'Hara is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, her sons Matthew and Luke Welch, and her six siblings.
