Anime 'Lord of the Rings' prequel The War of the Rohirrim is in production
The film will be a stand-alone prequel to the original Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy.
New Line Cinema and Warner Brother Animation have teamed up to produce a anime prequel film to the original Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will tell "the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, delving into the life and blood-soaked times of one of Middle-earth’s most legendary figures; the mighty King of Rohan – Helm Hammerhand."
The anime film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, will serve as a stand-alone prequel and companion film to Peter Jackson's original trilogy based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Jackson himself will not be involved but Phillipa Boyens, part of the original screenwriting team, will be a consultant for the project.
According to New Line Cinema, The War Of The Rohirrim is being "fast-tracked" for the big screen.
In a joint statement from Warner Bros Pictures Group and New Line: "Fans know Helm's Deep as the stage for one of the greatest battles ever put to film and, with many of the same creative visionaries involved and the brilliant Kenji Kamiyama at the helm, we couldn't be more excited to deliver a fresh vision of its history that will invite global audiences to experience the rich, complex saga of Middle-earth in a thrilling new way."
