Additional funding given to Screen Ireland as part of Irish Government's Audiovisual Action Plan
Screen Ireland looks set to benefit from Government funding, according to a new report.
The Irish Government has given Screen Ireland extra funding according to a report published by Minister for Tourism, Sport, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht and Media, Catherin Martin about their Audiovisual Action Plan.
Their Budget for 2021 increased Screen Ireland's budget to a record €26.2 million, which according to the report, will "assist in the challenges of supporting the Audiovisual Sector in 2021 and beyond" after the COVID-19 pandemic.
"My Department works closely with Screen Ireland and the film industry to ensure the optimum conditions are in place to allow the sector to overcome the challenges of production during COVID-19 and over the past year, I have been heartened to see that safely and gradually resume," stated Martin, in a press release accompanying the report.
"I was pleased to be able to provide additional funding to Screen Ireland, including specific funding for investment in high-end TV drama as well as additional support for the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland in respect of the Sound and Vision Fund. Screen Ireland’s budget has increased again for 2021 which will support increased investment in production and development."
She also mentions another finding of the report, a specific fund for "high-end TV drama" production, while also citing international filmmakers' recent use of Ireland as a filming location as proof of "the hard work and endeavour of all stakeholders involved."
"I look forward to seeing the continued success and growth of the industry into the future."
