With variations that range from classic khaki to eclectic cool, a trench coat is a classy, utilitarian item that should be in every fashion-conscious wardrobe this season. Best of all, some of the top designers have been reimagining the trench coat by deconstructing its form to produce some incredible statements. The standout pieces that you could always rely on to add a dash of sophistication and turn you into an instant street style star status are experiencing an exciting makeover this year. For example, Balenciaga made a strong case for high gloss finishes on outerwear giving the trench an 80s silhouette with XXL shoulders which gave us serious Working Girl vibes. Maison Margiela developed models with a drop-waist, swingy skirt and voluminous sleeves that made this stunning piece into both a Trench Dress and a coat at the same time. Alexander Wang created the denim version of the trench for an everyday look which can be worn casually open and paired with a top and shorts to look laid-back and cool. This look was made for the It girls of the moment like Lily-Rose Depp and Lottie Moss.
