In Our Own Words, A Documentary Irish Women's Fight for Equality Airs on TG4 Tonight
Influential Irish women are the subject in the documentary 'In Our Own Words'
Countess Markievicz, Marie Harney, Monica Barnes and many more - These women transformed Irish political life forever. And now their stories are finally told. The documentary In Our Own Words focusses on women who fought for equality and representation in Ireland's political sphere.
To get the facts straight, only primary sources and first-hand testimonies are used, including interviews with the women themselves: Mary Harney, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Ivana Bacik, Mary Robinson, Mary Lou McDonald, Joan Burton and Monica Barnes (in her last interview ever) amongst others. Writings by Countess Markievicz also serve as a source of information.
"As Ireland's women representatives reveal the truth of their experiences in the Oireachtas, the programme gives a unique insight into this aspect of Irish history, its political structures and the changing place of women in Irish society - bringing to life, through real and very personal first-hand testimony, a remarkable story. A story that is still unfolding...", the press release reads.
TG4 telecasts In Our Own Words, directed by Alan Gilsenan and produced by Martin Mahon, today at 9.30 pm.
