U2’s Bono and Mary Robinson to launch UN education campaign for girls
Ireland to host major event at the United Nations in New York today highlighting the importance of education for girls.
U2 frontman Bono along with former Irish president Mary Robinson will launch the ‘Drive for Five’ campaign, a call for five transformative actions to get all adolescent girls access to quality education in safe, supportive, and healthy environments.
The campaign will be launched in New York at the United Nations headquarters, with UN Secretary General António Guterres among those in attendance.
Bono and Mrs Robinson took part in another Irish event at the United Nations in July of last year for the official launch of Ireland's bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.
Now, the government is hoping to secure a two-year term on the Security Council in 2021 with voting set to take place this June.
