Track of the Day: SJ Talbot - 'Millisecond'
SJ Talbot has returned with her third single release — a dance pop ballad called 'Millisecond.'
Dublin pop artist SJ Talbot has returned with another irresistible, danceable hit — her third single release, 'Millisecond.'
Blending rich vocals with a gorgeously produced dance pop background, Talbot marries an upbeat pop ballad with low, searching vocals — creating a deeply relatable, deeply groovy track. Beginning with paired back electric guitar and candid lyricism, layers of synth and rhythmic drums kick in to bolster the chorus, building the track layer by layer until you get lost in the swirling harmonies of Talbot's vocals.
Holding an almost confessional quality, 'Millisecond' is imbued with honesty — a forthright track on the difficulties of moving on and letting go. Incorporating the sounds of Amy Winehouse, Dua Lipa, Nile Rodgers and La Roux, Talbot combines classic influences with a modern vision, creating tracks that are both compelling both lyrically and instrumentally.
Having been releasing music since 2020, 'Millisecond' is the 23-year-old's third single release. A Clontarf native, Talbot is no stranger to the Irish music scene. She worked as a session keyboardist and singers for the past four years, beginning to strike out as a solo act in 2017.
With her debut single 'Envy' releasing in September of 2020, Talbot's following has been growing by the thousands. She shared her second release, 'Easy For Me,' last year — which has gone on to garner over 10,000 streams on Spotify. Unexpected and innovative, Talbot has cemented herself as one of the most exciting acts to come out of the homegrown scene — promising a fast rise to stardom, she is one to watch.
