‘The Public Image Is Rotten’ Catches Critics’ Attention

Director Tabbert Fiiller offers an in-depth examination of John Lydon’s group, Public Image in his upcoming film ‘The Public Image Is Rotten’.

The documentary follows the former Sex Pistols’ frontman struggling to find direction after the band’s breakup. While it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, it will air in the United States this Autumn. Additionally Fiiller will offer a post-screening questionnaire following the film’s screening at London’s Odeon Camden Cinema on June 3.

Public Image is an English post-punk quartet who experienced much of their success during the late 70s and early 80s. Lydon gathered guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble and drummer Jim Walker for the group. Some of their most popular records include This Is What You Want...This Is What You Get (1984) and Album (1986).

The film mainly revolves around the band’s music, but draws from commentary by numerous musicians including Flea, Ad-Rock, Ginger Baker and Thurston Moore. Lydon’s captivating personality is expertly showcased and depicts the multifaceted nature of the artist.

Additionally the band announced their first Irish gig in five years at Tivoli Theatre, on August 26.
