Protest against gendered violence to take place in Dublin this weekend, following two femicides in 24 hours
Set to take place on Saturday, May 2, the standout protest will honour the victims murdered in Galway and Waterford last week.
A protest against gendered violence is set to take place in Dublin this weekend, following two fatal assaults on women in 24 hours.
Organised by the ROSA Socialist Feminist organisation, the standout demonstration will take place on May 2 at 12PM at the Dame Plaza in Dublin. It is set to object violence, misogyny, and honour the victims of the recent assaults in Galway and Waterford.
A 33-year-old man has been taken into custody in Galway and charged in connection with the death of his mother, Milena Ostojic. Meanwhile, in Waterford, Gardaí are continuing to question a man over the death of Yveta Donovalova, who died at her home on Monday. The two killings occurred within less than 24 hours from each other.
Solidarity - the socialist alternative organisation will also join the standout.
"The heartbreaking news of two women being murdered, in Galway and Waterford, should be met with outrage and emergency action," they said on Instagram.
The protest will be followed by leafletting for ROSA's Bread & Roses socialist feminist festival, set to take place on May 22 and 23. The event programme ranges from panels and workshops raising awareness about feminism, misogyny, and trans rights.
