Oliver Stone to release Vladimir Putin Documentary in 2017
The US director, who recently worked on a documentary exploring the crisis in Ukraine, has begun making a documentary that will focus on the Russian President.
The Oscar winner told Russian pro-government tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda that his planned film about Putin “should be screened next year.”
Stone's recent biopic, Snowden, focuses on the life of computer professional-turn-whistleblower Edward Snowden and stars Joesph Gordon-Levitt as the titular character. Never shying from the politically sensitive issues of the day, Stone has taken an interest in global politics with documentaries about Latin America and films focusing on the problems of capitalism in the US. The Academy-awarding winning director has vocally criticised the western world's approach to foreign policy and supports neither Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump saying to Newsweek that: “Neither one of the candidates does not say that the U.S. is a policed state, that we need to reduce the number of wars which America is involved in or that we need to focus on climate change problems."
Stone's Ukrainian documentary will focus on ousted President Viktor Yanukovych and the supposed CIA-backed 'coup' in the country. And while we don't yet have full details about what Stone's newest venture might hold we can certainly expect it will be controversial.
