My 2025: Lou Robbie - Hero of 2025? "Most definitely Catherine Connolly"
Chef and author Lou Robbie reflects on her 2025...
Your Hero of 2025
Most definitely Catherine Connolly, our new president. A woman of morals and conviction from Galway, who gives a voice to the marginalised. A true hero in my eyes.
Villain of 2025
All the warmongers causing horrific needless suffering. Turns my stomach to say their names - Netanyahu, Putin, Trump.
Best Personal Moment
The release of my debut cookbook on July 17th, and finding out it’s an instant bestseller one week later!
Best Movie or TV show
I really enjoyed House Of Guinness on Netflix. It showed the grandeur, glamour and secrets of the Guinness family, in a time where Ireland was so deprived and hostile post-famine.
Best record?
'Killeagh' by Kingfisher. My 10-year-old sings the songs on repeat.
Best book?
My new cookbook Make & Freeze, which makes a great Christmas gift - little plug there!
Best thing you saw online?
I love Kyla Cobbler on instagram, her humour is so dry - she cracks me up!
Your hope for next year?
It’s always the same hope, to reach more people with my easy family recipes. I’ve a few projects in the works, so I’m looking forward to getting them off the ground. Can’t wait to share them.
What tickled your funny bone?
It didn’t make me laugh, but it really lifted the nation’s spirits watching Troy Parrott score the hat trick against Hungary. It brought back memories of Italia ‘90, and I could see the same excitement in my kids’ faces. It was epic, we won’t forget it.
- Lou Robbie’s book Make & Freeze is out now via Penguin.
