My 2025: Aisling Bea - Best thing you saw online? "Conor McGregor being called Andrew Tayto"
Actor/comedian Aisling Bea reflects on her 2025...
Your Hero of 2025?
Zohran Mamdani, the new NYC mayor. His acceptance speech managed to include everybody and pander to nobody and he feels like the young, relevant hope we need in politics.
Villain of 2025?
Benjamin Netanyahu.
Best Personal Moment?
My little gal happily playing with my pal Amy Huberman’s gorgeous kids at her house one evening, and not looking for myself or her Dad at all, while we got slowly tipsy. She was making friends, and so chilled and happy with them. I’ve been juggling her and two jobs, and it’s been tricky, but I felt like I have managed to do a good job of it so far on this little stretch of road.
Best Movie or TV show?
Kneecap. Editorially and comically pitch perfect. Acting is stellar and the whole thing feels indie, but stylistically made with big budget ambition.
TV show
I am rewatching the entire West Wing, I know this is more than 25 years old, but oh guys, the kids are wearing baggy jeans and tank tops and listening to Kate Bush, so give me this one.
Best record?
Our Meath princess – CMAT’s Euro-Country.
Best book?
I adored There Are Rivers In The Sky by Elif Shafak – just a stunning bit of writing.
Best thing you saw online?
Conor McGregor being called Andrew Tayto.
Your hope for next year?
Peace and healing for the people of Gaza. And a worldwide acknowledgement of the genocide.
What tickled your funny bone?
I have a picture of my boyfriend running a cooked sausage under the tap. It was at the request of my mother, because she felt it was too hot, and she is not one of the world’s great people for waiting around. It just looks like he’s washing a sausage. I look at it when I’m low.
• Aisling Bea brings her Older Than Jesus tour to Dublin’s Vicar Street on March 18 & 22.
