Louis Theroux's My Scientology Movie Documentary Will Not Get Irish Release
Ireland's current blasphemy laws are apparently to blame for the decision
It seems extraordinary, but Louis Theroux's hotly anticipated new documentary My Scientology Movie will not be receiving an Irish cinema release date for the foreseeable future.
The film's distributor confirmed that the documentary isn't coming out next month and has not commented on the rumours that it's due to the country's current blasphemy laws.
The main point of contention is the 2009 Defamation Act which forbids the "publication or utterance of blasphemous matter" against any religion. A breach of this law could see you hit with a €25,000 fine.
The controversial flick follows Louis doing what he does best - reporting on weird issues and topics - as he investigates, interviews past members and re-creates Scientology introduction videos.
During the making of the movie, Theroux was also being filmed by members of the "Church", who stated they were making their own film about Louis making a film about Scientology.
