Irish Film Institute celebrates 30 years with Open Day event
The Open Day will take place on September 10th.
Iconic cultural staple The Irish Film Institute is celebrating its 30th year in Temple Bar by hosting an Open Day on Saturday, September 10th. The day will offer free cinematic treats like film screenings and tours of behind-the-scenes activities. It aims to highlight IFI's three core areas: film exhibition, preservation and education.
"There is no better way to mark this milestone anniversary of the home of film in Ireland than by celebrating and thanking the loyal audiences who have supported us in the past and inviting in new audiences who will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future," said IFI Director Ross Keane.
The program of free screenings features classics as well as Irish films, including but limited to Jean-Luc Godard's The Image Book, Stanley Kubrik's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Frank Borzage's 7th Heaven, Geraldine Creed's The Sun, The Moon and the Stars, Robert Rossen's The Hustler, and Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66.
Tickets will be distributed in the IFI foyer an hour before each screening. Everything is first come first served, so be sure to arrive early!
Additionally, there will be tours of the Projection Booth, an 'Ask the Archivists' desk to learn about preservation and digitisation of film, and IFI Irish Film Archive tours. Tours can be reserved prior to the day through emailing [email protected] or by calling 01 679 5744.
There will be one random lucky person selected to win a free year of films at IFI, as well as discounted membership rates.
