Irish Club Collectives To Watch Out For: Basement Project
We take at a look at the collectives in Ireland reinventing the nightlife scene.
Founded by Ian Hart in 2015, Basement Project is one of Galway City’s most innovative DJ collectives. Encompassing what the group have described as “the whole spectrum of underground”, a Basement Project night could feature anything from dub, techno and house to breakbeat, funk and disco.
Notably, 2018 saw them switch to an all-Irish booking policy. Around the same time, the collective built up an impressive roster of local artists, including Maedbh O’Connor, Colman Buckley, Derek Carr, Jon Hussey, and recent signee Gamadon.
Last year the group stirred up the Irish scene with a number of innovative events, including the Lá Tech Electronic Music Festival & Conference at the Commercial Boat Club in Galway.
Basement Project’s inclusive events also include monthly parties on the intimate dancefloor of The Cellar. As the months warm up, these parties head over to the Commercial Boat Club. On Friday, February 8, the collective are teaming up with S1 Sounds to present Anti Social Acid Club and Midlands League in the huge, warehouse-like setting of the Commercial Boat Club.
