Irish artist Badhands announces sophomore album Far Away
Dubliner Daniel Fitzpatrick, (AKA Badhands) has marked the news by sharing the album's second single, 'Wasted'
Dublin musician Badhands has announced the release of his new album Far Away by sharing new single, ‘Wasted’, today.
‘Wasted’ is the second single from Badhands’ upcoming album, which is scheduled for release on 1st April 2022.
Having been a musician and songwriter for years with the likes of The Mighty Stef, The Last Tycoons, and Maud In Cahoots, Badhands' 2018 debut album Predictable Boy earned deserved critical acclaim.
"Effectively blending indie rock and folk, there is a distinctive feel to Predictable Boy," Stephen Porzio wrote at the time for Hot Press. "The piano-driven glam rock of 'Only One for Me' and 'Lost In A Dream' evoke Sunny Afternoon-era The Kinks, while ode to laziness 'Monday Morning' has echoes of The Strokes and The Walkmen. The darkly seductive 'Let Me In', meanwhile, feels very Nick Cave-ish."
Reflecting on a two-year struggle with feelings of isolation and detachment, award-winning composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Badhands has unveiled the follow up to 2021 single 'The Wait'.
Driven by a steady drum beat and droning bass, ‘Wasted’ beautifully illustrates Badhands’ raw sense of vulnerability, vibrancy and a willingness to explore themes of sorrow and self-doubt, all the while embracing his upbeat and optimistic instrumental stylings.
Dubliner Daniel Fitzpatrick has spent the past number years composing scores for wildlife documentaries in collaboration with some of the world’s largest TV organisations, including the BBC, PBS and RTÉ.
In 2019, his score for the Wild Cuba documentary won an award at the prestigious Jackson Wild Film Festival in the US in 2019. He also nabbed Best Score last year at Germany's Green Screen Wildlife Festival.
“This song was written in January 2021 and describes the isolation I was experiencing at the time, exploring themes of escapism and detachment, as well as disillusionment with a career path that seemed more than ever to be an unsustainable one," Badhands says of ‘Wasted’.
"The downbeat nature of the lyrics, though, are counterbalanced by the upbeat nature of the music, injecting life and some optimism into the song, which adds a bit of lightheartedness to all the self-pity in the lyrics!”
In 2020, Badhands produced and released a five-track EP Oceans, which was inspired by the unique nature of each of the world’s five oceans. "I never had the desire to play solo until all my bands started splitting up," Fitzpatrick joked in Hot Press back in 2017. We're glad the chance finally came along...
