Irish actress Amybeth McNulty Cast in Adaptation of Anne of Green Gables
Amybeth McNulty from Donegal has been cast in the title role of Anne Shirley for CBC's new adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. The 14-year-old actress has already made her television premiere here in Ireland on the series Clean Break, but is now continuing her career in her mother's homeland of Canada, where production of Anne of Green Gables began in September.
Amybeth has already done her research on the prolific character, as she says she first began reading the Anne of Green Gables books when she was nine. The young actress spoke to CBC news about how she identifies with her new character. “She has so much love for the world, which I think I share with her.”
The adaptation was written by Moira Walley-Beckett, who received three Emmys during her time writing for the crime drama Breaking Bad. The cast also includes British actress Geraldine James as one of Anne's guardians. While the series airs in Canada on CBC in the spring of 2017, it will also be available on Netflix around the world.
