Harley Quinn gets her own spin-off
After the huge box-office success of Suicide Squad, a Harley Quinn spin-off is now reportedly in the works. Get ready for Gotham City Sirens!
Of course Suicide Squad wasn’t perfect. When it came to the cinemas in August 2016, it earned a lot of sceptical responses from comic fans and although the movie grossed $745 million at the box-office, the critical reception of the anti-hero squad was not quite what DC hoped for.
Still, it had Harley Quinn. Through Suicide Squad she became immensely popular and now may is one of the most loved female comic characters in the DC Universe, so it is not a surprise at all that it's a Harley Quinn-based spin-off movie that is planned next – it can even be expected to kick off before the Suicide Squad sequel.
Harley Quinn will be one of the main stars of the spin-off, though it sure won’t be a solo adventure. Gotham City Sirens, taking its name from a DC comic series, will most likely also feature the Batman villains Poison Ivy and Catwoman teaming up with the anti-heroine.
While Suicide Squad director David Ayer will be producing and directing the movie, Margot Robbie will not only reprise her role as Quinn, but will also take part in the executive production. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, most recently known for her work on the latest Tomb Raider reboot, will write the script for the spin-off.
Although there is no word yet on when the Sirens will make their step to the big screen, the movie is said to have been fast-tracked and will hit the theatres before all others of the franchise.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Reporter claims that there is also green-light for a spin-off about Will Smith’s Deadshot given, which will centre on the origin of the character, but this is still in the early planning.
