Colin Farrell's HIV/AIDS advocacy work to be honoured in US ceremony

The actor has said he is "thoroughly honoured" to help in keeping Elizabeth Taylor's "message and the importance of her mission alive" in his work with the deceased star's AIDs Charity.

Irish star Colin Farrell is set to be honoured in the US for his work as an ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Farrell will be honoured at the Elizabeth Taylor Ball to End AIDS in West Hollywood Park on Thursday, September 15, alongside fellow actors Sheryl Lee Ralph and Charlize Theron.

Theron and Ralph are to be respectively honoured for their work for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and the Diva Foundation.

The actor spoke about the ceremony in a statement, saying: "I was lucky enough to know Elizabeth and in my time as her friend, it was so clear to me how important she felt her work with HIV/AIDS was.

"I am now thoroughly honoured to help in keeping her message and the importance of her mission alive. I look forward to celebrating Elizabeth at this year's gala."

The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation was founded in 1991 by the Hollywood icon to "pursue social justice and human rights for people with HIV/AIDS".

Elizabeth Taylor passed away in 2011 at the age of 79.

This news comes days after the actor's latest film, The Banshees of Inisherin, earned a 13-minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival.
