British outfit Coldplay have premiered their brand new single 'Higher Power' with the assistance of French astronaut Thomas Pesquet on board the International Space Station (ISS) last night.

An out of this world performance of 'Higher Power' - featuring dancing alien holograms - was sent up to Pesquet, who gave the track its first play after midnight from the station.

The Chris Martin-fronted band also joined the 43-year-old aerospace engineer for a video-call conversation.

“Right now we aren’t able to play for anybody on Earth, so we thought we’d just play for you. It’s like our one-man concert," the musician told Pesquet.

In a pre-recorded video for the Max Martin-produced track, the four-piece are seen playing in their usual colourful outfits in front of shipping containers, while hologram dancers perform in front of them.

The song was teased last week via a cryptic video and website referencing an Alien Radio.

The band called the renowned producer “a true wonder of the universe”, having begun work on 'Higher Power' early last year. A snippet of the track later appeared on TikTok for a 24-hour period.

Coldplay will perform 'Higher Power' on American Idol this Sunday and at the Brit Awards on Tuesday, where they will open the ceremony from a pontoon on the River Thames.

Coldplay currently hold the title of being the most Brit Award-nominated group in history, with 28 nominations in total and nine award wins.

The band will also play during Glastonbury’s Live At Worthy Farm global livestream on May 22.

After releasing the double LP Everyday Life in 2019, the band said they would no longer tour due to concerns over the environmental impact of doing so. More recently, singer Chris Martin joined Burna Boy on 'Monsters You Made' from last year’s Twice as Tall.
