Lankum's Ian Lynch presents new RTÉ lyric fm series Scéalta Shamhna

Ian Lynch of Lankum is presenting a new RTÉ series on Samhain, Scéalta Shamhna, le Ian Lynch. The short feature series' nine episodes cover topics such as the name and etymology of 'Samhain', the mythology behind portals and sacrifices, and the significance of the end of harvest season.

Besides performing as one quarter of award-winning Dublin band Lankum, Ian Lynch also records and produces a monthly podcast, Fire Draw Near, about traditional Irish music.

Scéalta Shamhna puts the myths and customs of today's Halloween in their cultural context, the ancient Celtic Samhain, a festival when the dead and fairy people could cross over into the living world.

Episodes also discuss 'The Dead', 'Historical Sites', and 'Liminality', the concept of borderlines and in-between spaces.

The series is available for listening here.
