All Them Dogs by Djamel White has been longlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize.

28-year-old White is the youngest writer on this year's longlist. The longlist or 'Booker Dozen' consists of 13 books, narrowed down from the 163 submissions competing for this year's prize.

The catalogue will be whittled down to a shortlist on September 22, with the final winner being announced on November 9.

The debut thriller is set in West Dublin and follows the story of Tony Ward, a man who returns to Dublin having been abroad for five years. He finds himself working with Darren ‘Flute’ Walsh, an enforcer for local crime boss Aengus Lavelle. The duo find themselves navigating Dublin's criminal underworld to escape past misdeeds - but when a mutual attraction develops between the pair, things start to get even more precarious.

“I’ve said in other places there’s always this elevated status given to these gangland characters," White said to Hot Press back in May.

"They’re spoken and almost gossiped about like celebrities. They carry a certain mythos, which I found quite interesting. You could say it’s a peripheral experience, that I’ve been a passive observer. But there was knowledge already in me that I was able to draw from."

White, as an "early school leaver", spoke with people from all backgrounds. He volunteered in the Irish non-profit literary organisation Fighting Words, which was established by Roddy Doyle in 2009. It was there he redeveloped his love for writing, which gave him the confidence to attend University College Dublin, where he received a BA in English and Creative Writing, followed by an MFA in Creative Writing.

Jamaican author Marlon James and Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart are among other authors to make the longlist.

Judging the 2026 Booker Prize is a panel consisting of broadcaster Mary Beard, award-winning poet Raymond Antrobus, musician Jarvis Cocker and journalist Rebecca Liu.

Last year's Booker Prize was won by British-Hungarian author David Szalay, for his novel Flesh.
