A special limited edition version of U2's new song 'The Blackout' will be released in only four stores across the globe to mark the annual Black Friday, with Freebird on Dublin's Wicklow St announcing that they will be stocking it.
There will be only 750 copies of the 12-inch released, so it's certainly going to be a very collectable item for U2 fans.
"Two of the shops are in the states, the other is Rough Trade in London and we're the fourth. It's very prestigious. We were approached to take the limited edition by Forte Records who do distribution for Tower and Freebird in Dublin," Freebird's Brian Foley told RTE Entertainment.
According to Freebird's website, "This is a Black Friday release only, and customers will have to call in to Freebird in person to pick up a copy on Friday the 24th of November. 1 copy per person while stocks last. There will be no reserves or online sales for this release."
U2 to used to be regular visitors to Freebird in their formative years. "They used to come in quite a lot," Brian recalls.
"I remember The Edge buying a copy of The Velvet Underground and Nico but they stopped coming in when they got famous."
He adds:"We also sold more copies of U2's debut album Boy than any other shop in the country for the first six months of its release."
