Beach House Teen Dream [Bella Union]
UNDERWHELMING THIRD OUTING FOR NU-GAZE DUO
Recorded in a converted church in upstate New York, Teen Dream is sleep rock duo Beach House’s third stab at making a record and to these ears it doesn’t fare any better than previous efforts. While there are some enchanting moments (‘Silver Soul’) much of the material ebbs along at a snail’s pace while Alex Scally croons in an all too familiar sounding broken voice. Teen Dream is by no means a nightmare, but there’s little original on offer for even the most ardant nu-shoegazer.
