Drumlish Pupils Hope To Rock The Charts

Longford may yet claim a top ten single this Christmas season! The newly formed Drumlish NS Sixth Class Rockers will release their first single, “Christmas is Coming”, this Friday evening (December 11) and it will be on sale locally, nationally and internationally at www.downloadmusic.ie/drumlishns6thclassrockers . It will also be available in music shops throughout Ireland.

The single,"Christmas is Coming" was written by John Halnon of Halnon Music Distribution, Drumlish, in conjunction with the eleven St Mary's NS students involved in the rock group. The single, was recorded at Transmission Studios, Drumlish, a studio that has served other notable Irish musicians including Shane McGowan, The Frames and Damien Rice.

The project began as part of a competition organised by the Longford County Enterprise Board where Longford schools invited entrepreneurs to speak to their students with the winning school receiving a computer. St. Mary's NS invited John Halnon to talk to the sixth class students about his business, Halnon Music Distribution, and he in turn invited the students to his studio where the musical magic was born!

"Their enthusiasm rubbed off on me," says John. "Throughout the years, I've worked with a lot of groups and this group was a real pleasure to work with. They were refreshing and it was something different from the normal work day."

Looking at the prospect of a top ten hit, John says, "We are having a go at it. The song is now registered with IMRO and we hope to have it on the airwaves locally and nationally."
