Last Surviving 'Wizard of Oz' Munchkin Has Died
Jerry Maren, who famously played Lollipop Guild in 1939 classic film, has passed away at the grand old age of 98.
Jerry maintained a great sense of humour up until the end and even took to Instagram last year to joke: "I'm still not dead, kiddos."
Alongside a cast of 100 little people, Jerry was only 18-years-old at the time when he filmed 'The Wizard of Oz'. And despite such a large cast, he stood out in his memorable scene (see below) as Lollipop Guild alongside the iconic Judy Garland.
Maren acted in dozens of movie and TV roles in a career that spanned nine decades, including 'The Twilight Zone', the Billy Murray movie 'Where the Buffalo Roam', 'Get Smart' and in an episode of the seminal classic comedy 'Seinfeld'.
"I've done so many things in show business, but people say, ‘You were in The Wizard of Oz?’ It takes people’s breath away," Maren said in one of his final interviews. "But then I realized, 'Geez, it must have been a hell of a picture, because everyone remembers it everywhere I go.'"
