Leonardo DiCaprio is cast to play Leonardo Da Vinci in a new biopic

It had to happen eventually.

Leonardo DiCaprio will soon be playing as his namesake in a new biopic about Leonardo Da Vinci.

According to Deadline, after a very intense bidding war between Paramount and Universal, Paramount has secured the rights to the Walter Isaacson’s book about Da Vinci.

Paramount has handed over the rights to Appian Way Productions, a production company owned by DiCaprio that already produced 14 movies including, The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant.

Essentially, if a movie starred DiCaprio in a leading role over the last decade, chances are it was made by Appian Way.

According to legend, Leonardo DiCaprio received his name from his mother because she was standing in front of a Da Vinci painting when she first felt him kick.

Perhaps he was signaling that he loved the artist and wanted to share his name. Or, perhaps he was trying to communicate something like this: "Playing that old guy is going to get me my second Oscar. You wait and see. Get my agent on the phone!"
