Emmys 2017: The Full Winners List & Other Talking Points

The TV shows 'Veep', 'Handmaid's Tale' and 'Big Little Lies' were the big winners at last night's 69th Primetime Emmy Awards...

The dystopian drama 'The Handmaid's Tale' scooped four major awards, while 'Big Little Lies' took home best lead actress, (Nicole Kidman), supporting actress (Laura Dern), supporting actor (Alexander Skarsgard), director (Jean-Marc Vallee) and best limited series.

It was a case of sixth time lucky for Laura Dern who finally won an Emmy after being nominated a half dozen times for the coveted prize.

While 'Veep' star Julia Louis-Dreyfus made the record books for winning an Emmy for the sixth time for the same role.

Accepting his award for Best Supporting Actor in Drama Series as Churchill in 'The Crown', John Lithgow took a pop at Donald Trump. "In these crazy times, his life, even as an old man, reminds us what courage and leadership in government really looks like," he said.

He wasn't the only one to have a go at Donald Trump on the night. The biggest surprise was when former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer appeared to poke fun at his ex-boss.

In a clear reference to one of his more eyebrow raising comments during his short time in the White House, Spicer said tongue-in-cheek: This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period.”

While Donald Glover, who won Best Actor In A Comedy Series for 'Atlanta' had this to say: “I want to thank Trump for making black people number one on the most oppressed list. He’s probably the reason I got this.”

It didn't take Trump long to take to Twitter to air his own views on the show either.

When she took to the podium, an emotional Kidman said in her acceptance speech: "I am a mother to two little girls, Sunny and Faith and my darling Keith, who I asked to help me pursue this artistic path and they have to sacrifice so much for it.

"So this is yours. I want my little girls to have it on their shelf and every time they think 'Mummy didn't put me to bed' they will know it was because of this. I got something."
