UK indie-rock band announce release date of new album and plan US and European tour.
Yesterday marked the triumphant return of indie-rock band, Wolf Alice. The band’s new single ‘Yuk Foo’ premiered yesterday on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1, and has already created huge buzz for the full album release of Visions Of A Life — out on the 29 September.
The band has been teasing the album for the past few weeks, sending out mysterious postcards to fans with handwritten messages such as, “I heard that journeys end in lover’s meeting / But my journey ends when my heart stops beating.” Confused fans were looped into the mischievous game when the titles of Visions Of A Life were released yesterday, linking up the messages with lyrics and titles from the album.
Following the success of their last album, My Love is Cool, which reached No. 2 in UK charts last July, Wolf Alice expressed concern about the high expectations for their sophomore album. In an August 2016 interview with Hot Press, bassist Theo Ellis said, “You can’t let it permeate your consciousness – or the music will be shit...Lately we’ve had to come to terms with the fact that life has changed for us all. It is strange – this is our thing now. We’ve had to build a new way of living.” Fortunately, the band did not hold back, quickly jumping back into the thick of things after their extensive world tour to create a varied album of entirely new (and great) material.
The new single “Yuk Foo” is a more personal venture for the band. According to lead singer Ellie Rowsell, “For me a lot of it is about being a young woman. Even the shit, everyday wolf-whistle thing. As I get older, I feel like ‘Why have I always put up with that?’ When I sing that kind of song, it’s everything that I want to do when that happens.” Her frustration is clear in lyrics such as, “I don’t wanna be cruel, but you’re really grinding / I’m not a fool but I have a rage and it’s blinding.”
The positive reception of ‘Yuk Foo’ has amped up excitement for the band’s US and European tour. The US tour will go from coast to coast in intimate venues this July, while the European tour will be heading this way in autumn. Tickets will go on sale at 9am on 16 June at wolfalice.co.uk.
