Susana Baca belongs to a new generation of Peruvian singers, delving into the shadows of the past to recover shimmering melodies and seductive rhythms. Her seemingly effortless interpretative skills tell of the stories and the steps of music and dances once consigned to history. This album features covers of Damian Rice’s ‘Volcano’ and a duet with Gilberto Gil. For this album Susana Baca has deliberately chosen songs and musicians which are outside of the Afro-Peruvian tradition – this can be seen as her “crossover” record.
