Take It To The Lynott, One More Time
There’s a trove of Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott memorabilia to be sampled on the web – if you know where to look
He may have been the quintessential hard rocker, but Philip Lynott was prone to frequent flights of musical fancy. The most bizarre was probably his teaming up in 1984 with London soulster Junior Giscombe. The unreleased track they recorded in Richmond’s Kew 184 studio, ‘He Fell Like A Soldier’, is one of over a hundred rarities listed on the exhaustively researched www.thinlizzyguide.com, which also has gig, discography, TV appearance and extracurricular activity sections you can get lost in for days. We’re particularly grateful to them for reminding us of ‘Man Of Mine’, the ace 1985 single that he produced and sang on for Gay and Terry Woods’ Auto Da Fe.
You can also see Philo looking all mean ‘n’ moody in the accompanying video, which can be found at www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2W21SsDfWQ and includes some hot village green cricket action that the Duckworth Lewis Method would most definitely approve of.
As Joe Elliott reminds us in our interview with him on page 58, Phil was often to be found rubbing leather jackets with the punk brigade in the Funny Farm and in 1978 joined up with Sex Pistols Steve Jones and Paul Cook under the Greedies banner for a Christmas single, ‘We Wish You A Merry Jingle’, which can be perused at www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZN2bcS9shuY. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mqLii-8SPY&feature=related also has a Kenny Everett Show show version where frankly we believe drink has been taken.
From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAmmhp0nYwk&feature=related where you can see Phil and Gary Moore performing an amps on ‘11’ version of ‘Out In The Fields’, www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAPS2WiZFz4 which has Phil and Lizzy on The Tube and www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDOkLUEj6zI&feature=related, which finds the John Sykes-era band cranking out ‘Cold Sweat’ in an unidentified Irish pub. If you know its identity, zap us a mail.
Finally, wn.com/Phil_Lynott has a veritable treasure trove of goodies including his very last TV interview with the now defunct Music Box cable channel, ripping it up on stage with Motörhead at their 10th birthday party and performing an ace rendition of ‘Parisienne Walkways’ with Gary Moore who’s resplendent in a very fetching red leather jumpsuit. Enjoy!
