It Still Moves
One of the new breed of Southern Gothic alt.country practitioners, My Morning Jacket are being mentioned in the same breath as such bona-fide legends of Americana as Sparklehourse, The Flaming Lips, and Grandaddy. Whilst many will hear echoes od Neil Young and Will Oldham in the spectral acoustic arrangements and frontman Jim James' hard-bitten-but-vulnerable vocals, the band aren't afraid to kick out the jams and slip into a Lynyrd Skynyrd-like metallic groove turn when the occasion demands. A classic case of an iron fist in a seductive velvet glove, the dustbowl epics of At Dawn will spellbind many a listener over the winter months.
