The thing with releasing an album near the start of the year is that, no matter how breathtaking it is, people will have come over all short-memoryish by the time the end-of-year laurels are being perched on rock-genius heads. To attempt to fix that, we've gone a-nosing into our archives this week and emerged dusty but triumphant with an interview with And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - because their second album Source Tags & Codes (released in February of '02) is absolutely, as we used to write on our notebooks in high babies, 2 Good 2 B 4 Got 10.

Witness (so to speak) Jason Reece & Neil Busch describing rough riding through Witnness '01 on dodgy hired gear ("There were moments that I thought were beautiful, and there were moments where I thought, 'Oh man, I can't believe people tolerate this'")... going to see Dirty Three the night before (they've exquisite taste, unsurprisingly)... dealing with the ravages of planet-traipsing from festival to festival... musically "making the jump" from the hothouse dynamo that is their legendary club-show to a more festival-ish version of themselves... namechecking the then-unknown White Stripes as among their Witnness faves (there's that good taste again)... and planning to get Bono and Griff out of Super Furry Animals in a musical headlock/ peace-and-love celebrity smooch.
